The Wedding Day…

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

I don’t remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?

Wasn’t it yesterday
When they were small?

- Fiddler on the Roof

There is something surreal about watching your child marry. It just almost doesn’t seem real. Where did the little girl with the silly grin go? What …

Saucy Sticky Rice

Sticky rice is traditionally served as an Asian dessert. If serving this for breakfast (which I love to do), you could add cooked quinoa, flax seed, or chia seed to increase the protein and health benefits.

Whether it’s sweet or savory, I love sauce! The first time I ever had sticky rice was in a Thai restaurant, and all I could think …

Are Beauty Pageants “Beautiful?”

Have you ever considered what the real difference is between stripping off your dignity to stand on a runway or stage (often half-dressed) while strangers evaluate your body—strangers who are given the right to decide whether or not you’re “good enough” and standing on an auction block while slave traders do the same thing?

Both situations are humiliating, degrading, and ultimately shameful—both are done for the base pleasure or benefit of others, but somehow women …

Can’t Wait for School to Start?

So, today, after over a month of a house full of company, I was talking to the kids about how ready I was to get back on schedule and start school again. My daughter, Virginia Grace, said, “Mommy, you sound like that song in ‘White Christmas’ where they sing, ‘And mom and dad can’t wait for school to start again…’”

Me: Grace, what do you think they mean when they sing that?

Grace: The parents are excited about their kids learning.

Um. Yeah. …

The Stimulating Simulation of Sin

Over the last few years, I have had a number of conversations both online and in person over the topic of Christians and entertainment. There are so many factors involved, and every life is drastically different; so,  as far as what movies are acceptable for all Christians, I acknowledge and agree that there is no way to make a “good” and “bad” list.

All sorts of factors affect the way we respond …

Born to Deliver…

“The long hallway gave way to cold, sterile walls as Kathy was ushered into a room that would forever change her life – The Green Room. It held the first of many secrets to come, but she wasn’t about to let anything get in the way of her quest for happiness.

“With steely determination, Kathy’s elusive dream led to a string of boyfriends, unwanted pregnancies, and failed relationships. Little did she know …

Pain and Suffering…Past and Present

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul. – Horatio G. Spafford

A while back, I did a study using Martha Peace’s book, Damsels in Distress. The last chapter focused on responding biblically to trials. …

Of Thanksgivings Past…

Thinking back to a Thanksgiving many years ago while I was still in the pit of my rebellion and sin… I had moved a thousand miles away from home and found myself with nowhere to go for Thanksgiving. After work, I stopped at the grocery to prepare for my lonely little meal. I stood in line with a small ham steak, a can of pineapple, a can of sweet potatoes, and …

Rich and Creamy Homemade Body Butter

Yes, you can do this!

I think this recipe is my favorite essential oil-infused concoction so far. Maybe it’s because it took me so long to perfect. A few days ago, I got it nearly just right; then, the next day, after 3 attempts to duplicate it, I nearly gave up! Failure, after near perfection, is beyond frustrating.

I think I’ll definitely have to do a video on this one, since there …
