Relaxing Scents…

Print Friendly

Fragrant henna with spikenard,
Spikenard and saffron,
Calamus and cinnamon,
With all trees of frankincense,
Myrrh and aloes,
With all the chief spices—
A fountain of gardens,
A well of living waters…

Song of Solomon 14:13-15

I am so glad God gave us essential oils. I am relaxing this evening after a nice hot bath, enveloped in the most intoxicating scents. I mixed rose, ylang ylang, jasmine, and orange essential oils with 2 oz. pure almond oil for a soothing body moisturizer; then I soaked in the hot bath. Ahhh…

Now I’m sitting in a room with frankincense diffusing all around me.

I know I’ve been sharing a lot about the amazing benefits of pure essential oils, and many of you have expressed interest in learning more. Not only will I be sharing more valuable info with you soon, but, I have a special surprise for you! Be sure to check my blog this week for some exciting contests and GIVE-AWAYS! Yep, that means FREE stuff!

If you’d like to browse some of my favorite oils, click HERE. And, for those interested, here’s my recipe for the moisturizer/massage oil I used tonight:

Exotic Moisturizing or Massage Oil

2 oz. carrier oil (almond is good)

2 drops rose

8 drops ylang ylang

2-5 drops jasmine

5 drops orange

Pour carrier oil into a clean, dark glass bottle. Add essential oils. Gently shake to blend before each use.

Oooh, an essential oil giveaway…how exciting! I’ve just recently started getting into using essential oils medicinally, for cleaning, etc…it’s quite fascinating and I’m excited to learn more. But if you don’t mind, I have a couple questions for you…

    - What resources have you found the most helpful and informative? I’m currently reading “The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy” by Valerie Worwood and have found it helpful, but I would like to add to my information library.

    - How have you handled using essential oils when you’re pregnant and/or nursing? I’m currently pregnant with my second and still nursing my first and when I’ve looked online for information regarding the safety of essential oils when pregnant/nursing, it’s all be rather confusing! The lists of what is safe and what isn’t are conflicting and I’m confused as to what “avoid during pregnancy” even means. Does it mean just don’t apply topically to yourself or specifically inhale it, or should you also avoid applying them to others topically or using them for diffusing or cleaning? I realise that you’re not a health professional, etc., I’m just wondering how you handled that when you were pregnant and/or nursing…so thank you SO much for any info!

  4. It’s amazing how God has given us so many gifts and this is one I had not even thought about! Scents have such an impressive way of calming or exciting and bringing forth memories. Thanks for the recipe. I have all those things on hand and am going to go make that. Something great smelling is needed for today!

    Hi Jessica,

I just realized I never answered this! So sorry!

I have a few books I use all the time. One is The Essential Oil Desk Reference (very thorough). Amazon has it here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Oils-Reference-Science-Publishing/dp/0943685494/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294548064&sr=8-1

And the other is The Quick Reference Guide for Essential Oils found on Amazon here:

    http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Reference-Guide-Using-Essential/dp/098426583X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1294548206&sr=8-1

As far as your question about pregnancy, obviously I am not a doctor. I always erred on the side of caution, and I used many different Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils during pregnancy and labor – especially lavender. And I know a lot of midwives use YL essential oil blends during births. The key is to use pure oils. I wouldn’t use a cheap, adulterated oil whether or not I was pregnant, but especially if I was pregnant. And I don’t think I’d take any oil internally while pregnant, regardless of its purity.

By the way, you would REALLY like the Gentle Baby blend…

Gentle Baby™ is a soft, fragrant combination of essential oils designed specifically for mothers and babies. It helps calm emotions during pregnancy and is useful for quieting troubled little ones. It is also soothing to tender skin. Many of the essential oils in this blend are used in elite cosmetics to enhance a youthful appearance.
