Homemade Ranch
I love ranch dip, but I don’t like the MSG and preservatives that come along with it. Plus, I have a daughter with allergies, so this was a necessary discovery. First, start with your own homemade ranch mix (MSG free!)
Homemade Ranch Mix
2 T. Salt
2 T. Dill
1/4 C. Onion Powder
1/4 C. Garlic Powder
1/2 C. Dried Parsley
Mix together, store in a mason jar, and you’re ready for an easy throw together dip anytime.
Ranch Dip
2 C. homemade mayo (recipe below)
1 C. Greek Yogurt or Sour Cream
2 1/2 -3 T. of the homemade ranch mix (recipe above)
This dip is good as is, or you can jazz it up by adding fresh herbs (a cup of cilantro, a cup of parsley, or a bit of fresh dill, basil, or jalapeno). A sprinkle of cayenne gives it a nice kick too!
Homemade Mayo
1 whole egg (fresh, free range eggs from the farm)*
2 egg yolks
1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
2 tsp. fresh garlic
1 tsp. dill weed
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1/4-1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
Combine the eggs, mustard, lemon juice, salt, and white pepper in your blender or food processor. Then with the blender or food processor running on a low speed, start adding your oil very, very slowly in a very thin, slow stream. If your food processor has an insert with a tiny, pin sized hole in it, you can use this to pour your oil into. This will allow the oil to be added in a thin, even stream so that it is incorporated into the creamy mixture. Continue blending until all the oil is incorporated.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups. Place in your refrigerator to thicken. Store in an airtight container for up 10-14 days. You can add 1 Tablespoon of whey to preserve it for about a month.
*I would not use this recipe if I didn’t have access to fresh eggs from free ranged chickens (we have our own chickens). I cannot recommend consuming raw eggs from the grocery store.

That reminds me of our homemade Ranch dressing recipe – my younger sister Abigail used to break out after eating store bought Ranch, and thus we soon began making homemade salad dressings. There is an Italian (olive oil/balsamic vinegar, etc.) dressing recipe I invented that the siblings love to put on everything – even rice and mashed potatoes. It's great to establish healthy eating habits early!
Visit Abigail and Mary's blog at http://www.fairhillsfarm.com/farmgirls to see some recipes in which they've used homemade salad dressing.

I use this same basic recipe but have never used the dill – maybe we'll have to try that!

Crystal, I just added the recipe for the homemade mayo to this post!
Thank you Stacy! We have been making our own mayo for some time now but I was always frustrated especially around the holidays when we all love ranch dressing for dipping veggies but I refuse to buy it. This is truly a HUGE blessing to get this wonderful recipe…Thank you!!!
Thank you for this! We LOVE ranch dressing and I just haven't had the time to research my own mix… Thanks also for the mayonnaise recipe. I've been wanting to make mayo and am happy to try a proven recipe. Happy New Year! :-)
We were so excited when we found this recipe! We have used it for a couple of years and actually included this ranch mix in our Christmas gift baskets this year! Our recipe calls for crackers to be blended in.
Now to conquer that homemade mayo :)
Happy New Year!!!
I love my homemade ranch dip too, and this recipe is almost exactly the same as my recipe….
Two of my younger girls looooove veggies and dip, and I make mine with natural yogurt, so I think it's a great way to get youngsters to eat veggies!
Thanks for posting this recipe!!
I am so excited to see this recipe!!! I was thinking about 2 weeks ago how i needed to look up a recipe because we love it mixed with sour cream, but dont like the idea of what could be in the commercial mixes. We cannot wait to try it!
Thanks,
Leah
