Evil as Entertainment

Another good article…

We are to focus much more on what is good than what is evil. This is one of the lessons I sought to teach in The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment. “Our efforts in discernment should revolve around knowing the truth so that we might see the evil in contrast to what is true. The reason it is better to focus on what is true is simple: error is constantly changing, shifting and morphing into new forms, always seeking to imitate what is true in new and creative ways. Truth, however, is constant. When we know what is true we will more easily be able to identify what is error.”

Yes, I agree totally. I can’t stand to watch those videos that show accidents, etc. As for the watchdog videos, I know nothing of them whatsoever, and obviously don’t need to know.

Sterling article! His revelation of negative blogs/churches is especially revelatory and striking.

A very good article! When I read things like this I feel (and know) there is so much good knowledge
out there that I don’t know. That I would like to know.

I am never disappointed when I visit your blog, Stacy. You always have a timely remark, it seems, at least that speaks to me.

I call these kinds of blogs and “ministries” yellow blogging. They are the blog equivalent of the Supermarket Tabloids and Yellow Journalism.

I stumbled onto a site like this last week when I was googling, looking for another blog. Someone had set up a blog that looked exactly like the one I was looking for, except the intentions of those who set up the mirror blog were not pure.

I thought I’d seen everything until I ran into that!

If we don’t read the Tabloids, we shouldn’t be reading the Tabloid, allegedly “Christian” blogs, either.

I didn’t get the joke, even though the false blog was called a “parody”.

Thank you, Stacy, and God bless,
    Mrs. Webfoot

You mean like vampire romances or fiction books that make God out to be a fat black woman, no holier than you and I???
    Excellent article.

    So true about TRUTH!
Did you know that they teach the treasury inspectors how to spot counterfeit money by making them experts on TRUE money! Just like you said! They make them SO FAMILIAR with TRUE money, that they can EASILY spot “FAKE” money…
so too, this applicable with TRUTH in LIFE!
Thanks for a great post and such a nice blog!

I am one of the White Washed Feminist Bloggers and as such have taken a different stand on certain topics of our shared faith. That said, I agree with you on this topic. I would add, however, that it is always easy to see when these tactics are being used against us, but not always when we are using them against others.

May we all be vigilant to guard against the vilification of one another and focus instead on the Gospel of Christ, the Truth of our faith, and living it out to it’s fullest.

    Peace.
