Fall is in the air!
Our chickens finally started laying eggs. It’s about time they started earning their keep!
“Is there any taste in the white of an egg?” (Job 6:6)
We’re finally going to find out!

I’ve been waiting for this post. :) Congratulations on your first eggs! Here is another miracle from the Lord that you get to witness everyday – fresh, healthy cackleberries.
How are you enjoying the cackling that goes along with the laying? We say that they are singing their egg laying song.
Usually it startles me because I think someone outside is hurt! LOL
Also, I didn’t expect the roosters to be so…so frisky! It’s downright disturbing! LOL
Stacy,
Here are some egg articles that have been helpful to us. You might already know of these articles, but just in case you don’t, here they are:
“Meet the Real Free-Range Egg” (talks about the health differences in eggs from hens on pasture compared to hens in confinement houses-grocery store eggs)
http://www.motherearthnews.com/Real-Food/2007-10-01/Tests-Reveal-Healthier-Eggs.aspx
“The Chicken and the Egg Page” (has links to other interesting egg articles, of particular interest is the one about storing them outside of the refrigerator)

I don’t expect you to publish this comment. The above links are to articles from Mother Earth News. I dislike the name of their magazine, but they do have helpful information on food, gardening, etc.
Take care and God bless,

When you figure out how to explain the rooster thing to your children, can you let me know? We’re still struggling with this. So far we’ve only told our children that that is how God made the rooster to act.
We thought we’d better say something before a visitor explains it to our children by mistake, but we are procrastinating.
Our oldest of 6 children is 8 years old and is curious about King’s behavior.
LOL – you think roosters are frisky…buck goats are even worse!
Enjoy your healthy eggs! I buy free range from a guy locally – and his eggs have SOOO much more flavor than storebought.
Haha! Good luck with the chickens! My younger siblings have been trying to get my parents to buy some chooks for ages, but we live in town and really don’t have room in our backyard. . . not to mention all the noise being a little irritating for our neighbours. . .
I love the photo of William at the top of the post! :-)
Congrats on your eggs! The rooster thing becomes ho-hum after a while. . . just part of the farm scene. My problem was that the roosters are so mean. They can really hurt the smaller children if you are not careful. Be certain they know to protect their face from the roosters. I can’t tell you the countless times that I have thrown objects, large objects, at my naughty roosters. Have fun and I love your fall pictures!
What lovely dresses your daughters have on! I swear the three of them could pass for triplets
