“So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: “I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!” – Martin Luther
I realize the focus of this year’s Reformation Day event was John Knox, but this quote from Martin Luther was particularly meaningful to me today, so I wanted to share it. Besides, I missed almost the whole event, so what does it matter?
Yes, you heard me right. After all the anticipation, costume making, and excitement, my back went out two days before the event. My daughter drove me to the church on Saturday around lunch time and I tried sitting on the sidelines with a few pillows, but it was excruciating and, after about an hour, she brought me home. :-(
I was disappointed, but I am glad I got a glimpse of all the fun! We had well over 450 people come and, between my girls and others at church, I think I’ve viewed over 1000 photos of the festivities! I thought I’d share a few with you here:
My handsome “modern day Reformer!” And no, he’s not wearing tights…or a kilt!
And his prote’ge’, Little Lord William (who IS wearing tights…it was cooold out there!)

By the way, this is our new church building. We’re praying to be able to purchase it in the near future! Isn’t it lovely? The stained glass is beautiful! We are so blessed to worship here every week!

Another Reformer and his lovely family
The Olde Towne Square had plenty of crafts and interesting hands on learning projects.
Our family offered folks the chance to make their own Noughts and Crosses (tic tac toe) games to take home. Only instead of the typical symbols, we used faces of the Reformers. Oh look! Along with Calvin and Knox, there are faces of some of the elders and deacons at Providence Church!

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the music by
Nathan Clark George! I was so sad to miss visiting with him and his precious family! Patsy, please plan to visit again soon – next time longer!

Thank you to the
Serven family for teaching Psalm singing to everyone. I wish I could have been there to hear the heavenly music, don’t you? Pastor Serven is a pastor of an RPCGA church in Missouri and his family operates the
Geneva Foundation.
A real live artist (our own Elder Price), drawing portraits of our guests!

What a wonderful surprise! Not just
one bagpiper, but three! Talk about exciting! They were wonderful!
Sometime in the afternoon, the bagpipers led everyone to the park for the Boffer War!
“Yeah John, maybe in my younger days…”

Watch out, Sierra! You know what they say about birds flying overhead!
And don’t forget real, live Highland Games! Yikes!

You’d never guess that came from our back yard!
Yes, that’s a REAL stone! Braveheart has nothin’ on Seth!
Future, Reformer…and his pretty mommy!

…Dancing with his parents. Too cute!

And more dancing.
Perhaps you’re like me, and missed this year’s fun. I hope you plan to join us next year, as 2009 promises to be even better! See you there!

Mrs. McDonald,
Thank you for the post and all the lovely pictures, I am sorry you weren’t able to ‘be there’. :(
God Bless!
I’m so sorry you weren’t able to attend. :( It must have been so disappointing. . .
I’ve enjoyed looking at photos and reading about it all on Tiffany’s and Jessica’s blogs – they appear to have had a wonderful time :-)
I’m truly sorry for your back, I hope you feel better now!
The pictures were very interesting and made me wish to visit the Faire, because we don’t have events alike in Italy (most religious festivities are linked to Catholicism and Protestant congregations aren’t so prominent in our society).
My best wishes to you and your family
Elena
Looks like such a wonderful time! Too bad we are so far away.
I’m so sorry you missed it, Stacy! :( That reminds me of our last Scottish festival, when for the first time my mother was sick and I had to go alone; it’s never as much fun without family. Pat yourself on the back for your awesome contributions, though!
Gaw, that place looks awesome, a total blast. I’ve got to come sometime..
Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures of the Reformation Faire. I live too far away to ever attend one of those, but it looked like a lot of fun.
I am sorry that your back went out. I hope that you are doing better and are not in so much pain.
Wow!!! I wish we’d be able to do something like that around here.

Hi Stacy! Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Reformation Faire! Our deepest thanks to the many hands in your church that made this event such a success! I was sorry not to have the chance to meet you in person. Hope you are feeling a little better as the days go by.
God bless you all. 2Cor 12:9

Wow! What fun! We love Reformation Parties!
Hi Mrs. MacDonald, I was so sorry you missed so much of the Faire. You looked like you were in such pain!I hope you are feeling better now.
My family enjoyed the day very much. At church the next day my dad told a bunch of the people at our church to make plans to go next year. :)
Wonderful pictures. I am so sorry you had to miss it. It looked like a fun day! Hope you are feeling better now.
Blessings
Melody
Wow! That sure looked like fun! I love the costumes and seeing all of the people!
So…where did all these costumes come from? Is there a certain pattern that was suggested?
Everything looks wonderful, including the bravery of trying the Highland events! I love watching those. Our Reformation celebration was nothing compared with yours!

It’s been awhile since I’ve visited your blog. (You had taken some time off from blogging, so I had gotten out of the habit of checking.) Anyhow, the pictures are beautiful. Looks like a gorgeous fall day.
I’m SO sorry that you weren’t able to attend, though. As one who has suffered with back issues, I can totally relate to your pain…not only physical pain, but at being sidelined. (My back issues resulted in surgery about 10 years ago)
Anyhow, sure wish we could have attended this event. We would have loved it. Maybe one of these years, Lord willing.
Love in Christ,
Patti
The reformation faire was sooo much fun, I really enjoyed it and look forward to next time.
Mrs. McDonald,
I’m sorry you couldn’t make it and I hope you can next time.
