Happenings at the McDonald Home
For those of you who remember the day we received “the box,” you may be interested to know that the mysterious creatures have grown…
Other than watchin‘ the chickens grow, we’ve been missing Tiffany. She’s been down in Alabama, helping Jennie Chancey with her sweet babies while Matt’s ministering in Africa. We decided it was good “practice” for us to see what it will be like once she’s married. We decided we don’t like it much.
Last week, the girls and I defrosted the last of the coveted Gulf Coast seafood out of our freezer and I made Spinach Crab Bisque, which turned out very good. I’ll post the recipe when I get a chance.
A little taste of home…
Can’t ever have enough cream!
…or fresh herbs!
But never forget the good stuff!

Haha! Yes, sometimes life just sort of flows, as my mother says. No major events, just pleasant days, one after another, like pretty beads on a string.
Stacy, I’ve been reading “Raising Maidens of Virtue” and it has been such a blessing! Thankyou so much for writing this beautiful book.
Ah, to have a young lady come & minister to our family like yours is doing! We hope that our daughter can do that one day.
The new look to blog looks good! So do the chickens! :)
I love the new look Stacy.
I agree those chickens look tastey!
What a blessing it must be to have a daughter that is able to go and help others when needed.
Stacy,
You next book should be a cookbook! I’d love to see more of your recipes!

The Spinach Crab Bisque sounds delicious. . . but I really love the copper pot. Can’t wait until you share your recipe!
Gload y’all like the new blog look. My daughter, Jessica, made the header for me.
I’m going to try to start posting more recipes. My problem is a lot of my recipes don’t really have measurements. And sometimes I even forget what all I put in it! I’m an eye-ball cook. LOL But I do have a recipe for the bisque. I’ll try to put that one up for all you fortunate people who have easy access to fresh crab.*sigh* I wish that was me!
Kathy, that copper pot was a gift from my grandmother! I love it too, but I seldom use it because I don’t want to have to polish it! LOL
You McDonald’s use that stuff on everything it seems! ;o) I think in all of my twenty years of marriage I’ve never had a bottle of tabasco in our fridge. It must be some kind of record or something. Now whipped cream is another story…there’s a REAL staple food to keep on hand. Especially if you’re into homemade mochas and Italian sodas. :o)
p.s.–does Jessica do blog design for other people?
Those chickens look great! We are looking into getting some next spring(now that will be interesting;)!).
How sweet of your daughter to help a friend. Will she be gone long?
The Spinach Crab Bisque looks great! My husband would love that! I can’t wait until you post the recipe!
Mmmm–mmmmm! Looks delicious! I love a good bisque, but rarely make it myself. No fresh crab around here either (I’m in Michigan).
That is just wonderful of Tiffany to help with the babies. I can see my daughter wanting to do something like that when she is of age. She tells everyone she meets that she wants to be a mom when she grows up and have a baby girl — awwwww.
Ah, to have chickens. This city girl would love to have a bit of land and live in a more rural setting too. :)
I envy you those chickens. We used to have them. We also had a couple of white turkeys, but I don’t miss the hen. We named them Samson and Delilah but we should have named her Jezebel. But I figured even Samson, not known for particularly good taste in women, wouldn’t have touched HER with a ten-foot poll. LOL
While I love the idea of being a grandma someday, I’m in not hurry for any of my babies to make me one. I want them all at home and little…like they belong.
My husband’s thought is “Can you ever have too much tabasco?” He says no. We go through the bottles pretty quickly.
Blessings,
Patti
I love the new look of your blog.
Ah Gulf seafood. It has been over a year since we had any. My brother used to send Shrimp back with us when we would go visit.
Bisque-well it sounds pretty complex.
I remember your incredible crayfish pie. That too was pretty intimidating.
Stacy,
Would you please pass along my thanks to Jennie for writing “Woe to My People” on LAF. Yesterday I was searching high and low for someone who felt like I did. I was so surprised to see all of my favorite blogs write so positively about this. I wrote and erased my own post 5 times. Let me tell you I sighed a huge sigh of relief when I read my feelings articulated through Jennie! Phew, big sigh of relief…I’m not alone!
Looking forward to your comments on this issue if you so choose to share them.
Blessings,
Laura in Va
Mrs. McDonald,
Your Barred Rocks look wonderful! It’s interesting to watch your adventure with them as we are doing the same thing. Except we received our “box” in the middle of April. So we are a couple months ahead of you.
Has your rooster crowed yet? We name ours King, and he crows quite a bit. (It is a myth that they crow only at sunrise. :) )
As a note of encouragement, we found our first egg 3 days ago!! That was really exciting. If your birds are on the same schedule you should find an egg around the 3rd or 4th week of October.
By the way, I enjoy your blog and all your wisdom and encouragment. Keep it up!
May God bless you, your family and your pretty Barred Rocks.

Oh I love the new look to the blog Stacy! And I agree, the chickens look yummy! :)
My daughter and I are currently on chapter 6 now in Raising Maidens. We LOVE it!
I wish there were more like-minded girls in our area. My daughter is feeling very alone as she has made some really hard but godly decisions regarding modesty and other issues that the Lord is speaking to her and the girls in our church of course giggle and think she’s legalistic. It broke her heart. My daughter just turned 14 last month.
Please pray for girls like my daughter my dear sisters as they take a stand to step up to the higher standards of the higher calling we have in Christ. It’s not easy for them when they are alone in their convictions.
If anyone lives near Maine let me know so our daughters can meet and encourage one another.
Love and hugs to all my sisters!
I read over at Jessica’s blog that it is your birthday!
Happy Birthday, Stacey! May God’s blessings continue in your life.
Happy Birthday!!!
I just thought I would let you know that I just read Passionate Housewives. I had not planned on reading it. No offense, but I thought it was just another “how to love being a mommy” book. I have no children (not my choice) and those books do not speak to me. But, somehow this book ended up in my hands and I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did. Thank you. Even though it speaks mainly to mothers, many things spoke to me, also. Praise the Lord! :-D
P.S. You have a very handsome rooster. Not quite as handsome as my Gerard, the Buff Orpington, but close! ;-)
Stacy, I just bought Maidens of Virtue at a conf. and I was wondering what age range/group is this for? thank you I look forward to reading it with my dd. thanks, Lisa
Oh my goodness! I didn’t realize you had a older son!!! Where have I been!! Beautiful photos. :)
Blessings,
