Gardening and Such…
No, this isn’t OUR yard! But having just planted our garden (with the help of the Davis clan), I was amazed at what this family was able to accomplish. We also just ordered our chickens – our first poultry venture, so pray for us! Check out how this family has become amazingly productive with only 1/5 acre of land! What’s our excuse again?

Wow! It is amazing what can be grown in a small space. My husband is passionate about us growing our own food, so I made a little start last summer here in Australia. Even though our soil was not good, I only concentrated on cultivating one bed, and we didn’t know if we would be in this home for long, we were able to grow a lot of food. We see it as part of our dominion mandate to care for the earth and make it productive.
That was so entirely awesome! I have been wanting land so badly so that I could do all that and the video just showed me that I can live in the burbs and still do that! My only concern would be lack of yard for the kids to play in. I also don’t forsee living in California with their wonderful year-round growing climate. But still it is inspirational. I do plan on keeping my washing machine. (At least till all the kids are grown and out of the house- at least 20 years from now as I’m currently pregnant.) But I’m fine with line drying. I also like the bicycle powered grinder. Great stuff!
Wow, such a beautiful garden! It must be a great joy and satisfaction to see the small seeds you planted with humility and trepidation grow and give fruits!
Good luck with your gardening project, Mrs. McDonald!
Wow! How inspiring! With rising gas ($4.01 unleaded regular here this morning) and food costs, this is an excellent solution. I found hope in this. Thank you!
I too was amazed at what that family accomplished!!! Everytime I get discouraged about gardening, I always jump over to their sight and remind myself of their garden beauty. By the way, I am sure you will enjoy the chickens once they start producing eggs. It is a wonderful thing to go gather eggs and then come in and use those eggs to create something yummy in the kitchen. It just feels right.
grace and peace,

Thank you for sharing that. It will encourage my husband to tread on with his Garden. He is a firm believer that you are to grow as much as you can on your own!!
Thank you for this picture, which lead me once again to the path to freedom website. I searched and searched for it last week, but I couldn’t remember the name. God gives us what we need in His time, doesn’t he?
It is always surprising, but not really, to see how God is moving so many of our hearts in the same direction!
We moved here last year, and have a small California lot. But all the shrubs were in horrible condition, so they had to go!
So we planted an apple tree, 5 citrus trees, a lemon tree, and a peach tree, all dwarf! I also commandeered the raised flower bed for my veggie garden – I will not get lots, but every little bit helps! Plus in the swamp by the A/C I planted 3 blueberry bushes which are already yeilding beautifully!
While we are rather sure this is not the last house God has for our family, we are also sure we are to make the most of it while we are here!
My husband showed me this earlier this week and I was just so very encouraged that this would be great to do. However, I live in an apartment right now and we are not allowed to grow any produce:-(
I’m hoping we will move to new place soon, and then(if there aren’t any restrictions)I want to try container gardening on the porch and such.
Thanks for showing this clip! I’d love to be able to save some money this way.
Lots of love,
Sommer
Our Amish farmer’s market opened this week. Strawberries should be ready to pick in two weeks. I just love the bounty of summer, canning all that goodness. Have a wonderful weekend!

My daughters and I just planted our 4 raised beds this week. We are already seeing small leaves poking through. I just love the idea of growing as much as we can on our own and buying what we don’t grow, locally. We are enjoying God’s Work in our garden. Thank you, Stacy for sharing the video, it was truly an inspiration.

What kind of chickens did you get? My daughters love to go collecting eggs and my oldest has been enjoying selling the surplus at our Wednesday prayer meeting and then giving back to the Lord on Sunday with her earnings. We are looking forward to next spring when we should finally have a producing dairy goat.
