What is a Family Reformation?

My husband has posted on his blog describing the meaning of “family reformation.” I thought some of you might be interested in his thoughts…

“So, what is a family reformation? To reform something means to “form anew” or to “rescue from error and return to a rightful course.” Many Christian families are in error. We have churches full of “out of order” families where men are …

Gloom, Despair, and Drudgery on Me!

A fish that is desperate to soar above the trees will find, in his rebellion against his Creator, that he is miserable and hopelessly unable to reach his dream. He will also find that he is unable to see the inestimable beauty and mysterious wonders found in the depths of the ocean.

Discontentment colors our attitude, hinders our health and energy, blinds us to our blessings, and affects …

Blog Bombs!

My husband has some great thoughts on the importance of having a gracious spirit toward the brethren.

Friends, I encourage you to be gracious with one other. We should strive to vigorously promote the ideals and doctrines that we believe to be consistent with Scripture. If that means making a case for courtship or homeschooling or simple head coverings, great! Or, if that means another makes a case for dating or organized schools or frilly hats, wonderful! But, make the case! …

The Myth of the Perfect Family

Paul says in Titus 2 that the aged women are to teach the young women, among other things, to love their husbands and children, and to be “keepers at home.” If we decide it’s true that we as women are called by God to love and serve our families and keep our homes, then we as Christian women should do it wholeheartedly, because we’re also told …

Bearing False Witness

What are the sins forbidden in the ninth commandment?

The sins forbidden in the ninth commandment are, all prejudicing the truth, and the good name of our neighbours, as well as our own, (1 Sam. 17:28, 2 Sam. 16:3, 2 Sam. 1:9,10,15–16) especially in public judicature; (Lev. 19:15, Hab. 1:4) giving false evidence, (Prov. 19:5, Prov. 6:16,19) suborning false witnesses, (Acts 6:13) wittingly appearing and pleading for an evil cause, out-facing and overbearing the truth; (Jer. …

What’s in a Name?

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.”
— “Romeo and Juliet,” William Shakespeare

Romeo and Juliet, in Shakespeare’s lyrical tale of rebellious lovers, tangled secrecy, and inevitable despair, find their union forbidden by a long-time family feud between their opposing families. In her naiveté, Juliet wonders at the significance of a surname and asks the timeless question, “What’s in a name?”How important is a name? Words and labels …

A Housewife is as a Housewife Does

Are you content with your calling as a housewife? Yes, I said housewife. After writing Passionate Housewives Desperate for God with Jennie Chancey, I’ve decided I like the term “housewife” better than “homemaker” or “stay-at-home mom.”

I know we discussed it recently, but I thought through it a bit more and have decided to call myself a housewife (though there’s certainly nothing wrong with the many …
